Birthday Movie Night

After Loganne went to sleep last night I popped a bag of popcorn and Chris and I settled on the couch for a movie. We have had 'Coraline' on our DVR for a while now so we figured we'd watch it. It was interesting and fresh, and kinda weird (in a good way). I've never seen anything like it. We couldn't tell if it was claymation or made to look like claymation, but it was very well done. The story is definitely NOT for kids even though it's animated. It has a dark theme that makes for a very twisty plot. I do recommend watching it! IMDB gives it a 7.8/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gives it 89%.

Chris' cake

Chris turned 25 on Friday the 23rd! Here is the cake I made for him. It's Links shield from Legend of Zelda games. I made a lemon cake with homemade raspberry jam filling and almond buttercream icing. Also I made the fondant myself which was easier than I thought and turned out really well! Luckily I had Terri get a picture before she cut into the important part!

Here's Loganne really waving hi for the first time. It almost sounds like she says it too, and I think she does! She is much quicker at it now, but it's cool that I got the first time on video!

First Surface Family Camp Trip

This past weekend we joined our friends Dustin and Laura Cherry out past Foster Reservoir for a camping weekend. We were at Yukwah Campground and it was just about perfect up there. For me, there is nothing like nights around the campfire with good company. Loganne did really well and got to play in the dirt for the first time! She really loved crawling around and trying to eat pine needles. 

This is what happened when I took away the handful of pine needles she was attempting to eat! Notice the dirt on her tongue. Niiiice. Apparently I wasn't fast enough, but oh well, dirt's good for her!

There was a great little sandy beach on the river at the campground. The water was pretty cold so we just went in about knee deep. Loganne was loving kicking and splashing the water, but eventually got little goosebumps on her legs so I had to pull her out.

Here she is after biting the sand. She moved so fast I couldn't stop her! She got a big mouthful but didn't seem to mind too much. Haha!

 

A little ways down the road from camp was Cascadia Campground. They have a short 3/4 mile hike up to this pretty waterfall. It was actually quite a steep climb, so Chris carried her to the top.

I got the downhill trek and with all the side to side movement I was making as we headed down, Loganne passed out in my arms. She never does that anymore so it was SUPER sweet. 

Well, that was our first camp trip as a family. It's definitely more work with a little one and you have to pack twice as much stuff, but it was fun and I wanna go again!

Since we're a lot farther away from everyone now, I thought I'd keep a blog so that people can look in on us and our lives if they felt so inclined. Hopefully it will also keep me feeling connected, especially once Chris goes back to work at the end of August. This way all the little things Loganne is doing I can post and everyone can watch her grow (she's been doing a lot of that lately!) Updates on our little love will be up soon!
